Targeted Relief Specifically for Men

Intensive research led Ergon’s development team to identify the saddle as a major cause of cycling discomfort for men. Rather than the genitals themselves, high pressure on the sensitive perineal area can lead to numbness. The SMS Comp Men is specifically designed to relieve pressure in this area. Using extensive prototyping and thousands of test kilometres, Ergon has tailored the saddle to the anatomy and needs of male mountain bikers.

More Freedom for the Legs

Men generally have a less flexible pelvis than women, which means male cyclists tend to sit more upright on the saddle and place more pressure on the sit bones. The narrower transition between the rear of the saddle and the saddle nose provides greater leg clearance and freedom of movement while pedalling.

Ergon Knows – Men Are Different

Compared with female anatomy, the pubic bones of men are significantly steeper and the pubic symphysis is positioned higher. These anatomical differences were taken into consideration during the development of the SMS Comp Men, helping make its gender-specific relief highly effective.

Correct Pressure Distribution

To protect the sensitive perineal area, pressure must be precisely shifted towards the sit bones and parts of the pubic arch. The SMS Comp Men achieves this with a flat and even relief surface adapted to the more upright male pelvis, while maintaining a high degree of freedom of movement. High-quality orthopedic foam provides additional cushioning and pressure relief.

The Right Size for Maximum Comfort

The V-shaped pelvic bones require a sufficiently large contact surface. The shape and size of the saddle should correspond to the rider’s sit bone distance so the ergonomic features can work effectively. The two available saddle widths are designed to provide the appropriate contact surface for different sit bone distances. The further forward a rider sits, the further forward the sit bones contact the saddle.

Compact Y-Shape for More Control and Leg Freedom

The compact Y-shape of the SMS Comp Men provides greater legroom and reduces the risk of snagging shorts on the saddle nose during steep climbs. Reduced leg contact with the saddle improves mobility and control when riding steep or technical terrain.

Deep Relief Channel

The deep, men-specific relief channel directs pressure away from the sensitive perineal area towards the supporting sit bones, helping prevent pressure, pain and numbness on rough terrain and during high-impact riding. The result is improved comfort for longer, harder rides.

Orthopedic Foam

The SMS Comp Men uses highly resilient orthopedic foam that is ergonomically formed specifically for mountain bikers. Body weight is distributed effectively across the contact area for enhanced support, while the padding is designed to provide long-distance comfort and protection from impacts and vibrations when the trail gets rough.

TiNox SL Rails

The super-light TiNox SL rails reduce overall saddle weight to improve performance and control. The SMS Comp Men weighs just 245g in S/M and 265g in M/L.

BMR Line

The biomechanical reference line (BMR line) is marked on the saddle to assist with precise fitting and adjustment. Once the optimum riding position has been established, the BMR line provides an important reference for adjusting saddle height, fore/aft position and saddle angle or tilt.
