OChain EBike Active Spider

Get that super-smooth chainless feeling and minimise the negative effects of chain tension on your E-Bikes rear suspension with the OChain E-MTB Active Spider.

Inspired by some incredible chainless runs on the DH World Cup circuit (Neko Mullaly - Hafjell 2014, and Aaron's Gwinning run - Leogang 2015). The designers pondered the question of whether the lack of a chain was a factor in the way their bikes performed during those runs. OChain was the result.

The OChain Active Spider provides chainless suspension performance, but...with a chain!

The OChain is a replacement crank spider that allows for a few degrees of rearward rotation of the chainring as the suspension compresses. This effectively isolates the drivetrain from the suspension, reducing the negative effects of chain tension and pedal kickback, while also improving the performance under braking.

Used by Pro riders on the world circuit, including Wyn Masters, Adam Brayton, Charlie Hatton, and Aussie hero Jack Moir.

What is Pedal Kickback? Pedal kickback is the undesirable tug backwards on your pedals as the movement of your suspension creates excessive tension on the chain. This is really noticeable on some bikes but not on others.

Who's this item for: TheOChain E-MTB Active Spider is designed to improve the downhill performance of full-suspension E-bikes and is intended for Enduro and DH riders. Some suspension designs create more chain growth than others so some riders may feel more of a benefit than others.

Maximum rider weight of 85kg

The active design of the OChain means that it will introduce a degree of lag when initiating the pedal stroke. Pedalling forces will hold the OChain forward, making it inactive until you stop pedalling. If you're an XC racer or spend a lot of time riding techy climbs that require super snappy engagement and ratcheting manoeuvres the OChain probably isn't for you.

Materials: 7075 T6 aluminium, titanium bolts.

What does it fit: Attaches to E-Bike drive systems from Bosch (gen 3 and 4), Brose and Shimano EP8 and requires a 30 to 36-tooth 104mm BCD chainring.

Compatible with 2-piece 5mm bolts only. Comes with Ti bolts included :)

How does it work? The OChain is a spring-loaded spider that allows the chainring to rotate backwards between 4°, 6°, or 9° depending on which elastomers are installed. The rearwards rotation reduces the effect of chain tension as the rear suspension compresses, allowing it to move more freely and reducing the feedback felt through the pedals.

Comes with 6° elastomers fitted, includes 4° and 9° elastomers to tune it to match your bike.
