Description

Have you ever wondered if your chain is worn out? Maybe your shifting quality has decreased? Maybe you brought the bike into your local and they've said it's time to replace it but you'd love to check for yourself? With the Unior Chain Wear Indicator its as easy as 'Go, No Go' to tell if it's time for a new chain.

Who's this item for: Anyone who rides a bike and would like to know how worn their chain is.

Chain compatibility: This is compatible for 5 to 11-speed chains.

How does it work: The design is simple really.
  • Place the 'hooked' side of the tool into your chain against a roller.
  • Try to lower the 0.2 - 0.5 tab into the chain as well. If it doesn't fit your chain is in 'as new' condition.
  • If it does fit and drops right to the bottom of the tab, remove the chain tool, flip it over, re-fit the 'hooked' side and try again with the 0.6 - 1.0 tab.
What the measurements mean:
  • 0.2 (% of wear) - This is 100% acceptable for a new chain.
  • 0.5 - 0.6 This chain is showing some wear but it's nothing to be concerned about.
  • 0.6 - 0.8 At this point we recommend you replace your chain. By replacing your chain at this wear point there is a good chance you can simply replace your chain and not your cassette. By following this rule you can usually wear out 2, if not 3 chains before you need to replace the cassette.
  • 0.8 - 1.0 At this point your chain and cassette are both well worn and will both require replacing once the shifting quality diminishes.
Materials: Made from precision, laser cut steel the Unior Chain Wear Indicator has been built for the long haul.

Dimensions and Weight: The laser cut tool measures 123 x 37mm and weighs about 40-grams.

Pros: Easy to use and understand. Robust design.

Cons: Some might prefer the chain wear indicators with the moving pin as they are smaller and easier to carry.

    Awesome piece of kit

Well made, simple to use and foolproof (pretty much....). Best way to save bulk dollars on prematurely worn chain rings or cassettes by replacing chains in a timely manner. Also helps eliminate those ugly snapped chain dramas. Remember, chains are cheap!
