Description

Be prepared for unexpected dirt excursions with the Ambush Knee Guard from RaceFace. Featuring D30 high-performance shock-absorbing foam these pads will feel nice and compliant during normal use, but then the magical foam stiffens up under impact to protect your bony bits if the trail tries to jump out at you. The pads are made from perforated neoprene and lined with a terry material for wicking and comfort. The pads feature an open-back construction so you can put them on without removing your shoes, and the top and bottom elastic straps allow you to adjust the fit to accommodate your tree trunk/chicken legs. The sides of the pads have foam protection to protect your knees from the frame or other side impacts.

Who's this item for: These pads are for anyone that feels like they are stepping out of their comfort zone and want something to protect them if things go south. They are a heavy-duty pad, designed for the gravity side of things and would be best suited to AM, Enduro, and DH riding.

Protection Style: The pads utilise D30 padding which is a visco-elastic foam. In English, that means that the foam is soft and compliant, but stiffens up under impact to provide a great balance of comfort and protection.

Materials: D30 Protective foam padding, perforated neoprene outer, terry lined for sweat-wicking and comfort.

Closure or Slip-on: These pads have an open-back construction so you can put them on without removing your shoes. Adjustable elastic upper and lower straps allow you to dial in the fit.

Length of knee pad: These pads cover partway down the shin and a couple of inches above the knee.

Protection level: Heavy Duty Protection.

Removable protective inserts for washing: The protective inserts aren't removable.

Pros: Great level of protection. D30 Padding. Can put them on and take them off without removing your shoes.

Cons: Only one colour available. A bit too much pad for general trail riding.

    Awesome knee protection

Super comfortable, offering a high levele of protection whilst being lightweight too. I love how adjustable they are and being able to put them on and take them off so easy as they are open backed and velccro adjusting. Able to tailor the fit to suit my chunky short legs 😁. Wear them on my local trail which has a number of drops, rocky tech sections and washed out rutted areas. Couldn't be happier!

    Great Pads

Posted a review 2 years ago whilst these were still quite new to me and I thought I'd post an update. 3 years on, and a couple crashes later, my opinion on these beauties haven't changed at all. Sure, they may not come from the most recognized brand, in terms of protective gear, but I can say without a doubt they most definitely deliver protection as well as the equivalents from any of the other brands. They do get toasty during the hotter seasons of the year but that's something which me and many others are more than willing to sacrifice for the protection, as well as something which to be expected due the designated riding discipline of these pads (enduro). Despite this they are still more than decently comfortable and really take a long epic style ride to cause any discomfort. Protection wise, all I can say is every time I've taken a bit of a tumble from the bike, my knees always come out unscathed. They are definitely bulky, slightly above average but once again something to be expected and the fact that they can be put on/removed without having a wrestling match with them is so damn convenient. In terms of value these are once again, highly impressive, due to them providing the same or better as their competitors at a lower price. Even after 3 years, I cannot fault these, and highly recommend for anyone who is doing moderate to decently intense style riding.

    Good Knee Pads

After 8 months of abuse, these knee pads are still holding up perfectly fine, apart from some small tears. In terms of protection, these are amazing, after many OTBs and stacks, these have protected me through it all and kept my knees unscathed. When it comes to comfort and, they are quite comfortable for relatively long days of trail ridng (3-5 hrs) but can get a bit humid in the summer. In terms of ventialtion these are not as ventialted as other knee pads, but for an enduro/DH oriented pad, these are just about as comfortable and comfortable as it gets. The open back design is also a nice touch and allows for the user to wear/remove them with taking off their shoes and is very quick and convenient. Only thing to take note of, is that the sizing is on the smaller side and you may have to size up (I'm normally a size M but for these I had to get L)

    Great Knee Pads

After a few months of use I can barely fault these pads. They are very comfortable, durable, protective, great value, and versatile. The ability to be put on or taken off without removing your shoes is also a very useful feature. They are a quite warm and look a bit bulky but that is to be expected of a knee pad like this. Overall I definitely recommend these as a great do it all pad for pretty much all types of riding.
