Description
The IXS Trigger Knee Pads are the newest burly set of knee pads to be released from IXS. Following on from the huge success of the Carve Knee Pads the Trigger has taken the bar and raised it more than a few notches. Big on comfort, big on breathability, big on fit, HUGE on protection.Who's this item for: DH, Enduro, All Mountain and aggressive Trail riders who want a high amount of protection and comfort.
Protection Style: The main protective insert is made from a material called XMatter. This exchangeable, lightweight, flexible viscoelastic polymer has been engineered to withstand multiple impacts in the same area without compromising it's shock absorbing properties. The protective inserts are asymmetrical by design and anatomically shaped. This makes for an ergonomically formed 3D pad that is flexible where it needs to be for pedalling and form fitting everywhere else for an improved fit. To help keep the temperature down the XMatter inserts feature Vortex. Vortex links multiple, large vents in the protective insert to increase airflow, ensuring warm air and humidity can exit the knee pad easily.
Materials: Over top of the XMatter insert the Trigger Knee Pads feature a ripstop style material for durability. A small exterior plastic guard is featured on the front, shin area of both knee pads. AeroMesh is used for the majority of the sleeve's construction. This lightweight, moisture wicking, breathable, anti-bacterial treated material provides a high level of comfort and structural strength.
Closure or Slip-on: The knee pads slip on and feature LoopLock adjustable closures on the top of the knee pad and also just below the knee. This allows you to fine tune the fit, keeping them secure and comfortable. There is also a silicon gripper along the top hem to help keep the knee pads in place.
Length of knee pad: These knee pads cover from just above the knee into the shin area.
Protection level: High. The XMatter provides enough protection for DH or Enduro use. These knee pads are EN1621-1:2012 certified.
Removable protective inserts for washing: Yes, the protective inserts are removable for ease of washing.
Pros: Ergonomic design with good breathability. XMatter is a highly effective material when it comes to resisting impacts. The Trigger Knee pads have already seen success on the DH World Cup circuit with Amaury Pierron.
Cons: The only con that comes to mind is why they didn't extend or have a secondary exterior plastic guard featured on the knee cap to increase durability further. This may have impacted on the flexibility of the knee pad and reduced comfort though.
Note: Please take care as to not pull the knee pads up your leg from the top of the pads as you would a pair of socks. The material is not designed for this and may cause tears. Damage to the knee pads of this nature may not be covered by the manufacturer warranty. We recommend pulling up knee pads from the top and bottom of the pad with care, in a way that avoids stretching the mesh or damaging the stitching.
