Description
The Ion K-Traze Knee Pads offer pedal friendly, washable, flexible, lightweight, breathable, knee protection that is hard to look past. EN 1621-1, Level 1 certified guarantees protection for more than just abrasions. If you are chasing a new set of trail friendly knee pads that are sure to stay in place, these are well worth your consideration.Who's this item for: Trail, All Mountain and Enduro riders after a good level of protection that can be worn from the beginning of the ride right through to the end.
Protection Style: The K-Traze Knee Pad are an impact resistant foam style protection that utilise a super flexible and thin SAS-TEC main padding. This multi-impact compliant knee pad has also taken reliability to heart and has directly attached the protection pad to the fabric so everything stays in place when you have a digger.
Materials: The K-Traze Knee Pads features a new, very breathable sleeve material: the Super_Perforator_Neoprene provides maximum breathability even on long uphills. The neoprene sleeve is very flexible and conforms to your body very well. The kneecaps are covered in Power_Aramid, which is a material originally designed by Du Pont. This material offers outstanding tear resistance and tensile strength. For those that like to know the finer construction details: 35% neoprene, 25% polyurethane, 20% polyethylene, 15% polyester, 5% polyamide.
Closure or Slip-on: The K-Traze Knee Pads are a slip-on style pad that offer a very slim fit. Due to clever distribution of mesh and stretch materials, only one thigh strap (Snug_Loop) is necessary to hold the protector in place.
Length of knee pad: The knee pads fit from above knee to the top of the shin.
Protection level: These would be considered a moderate level of protection. They offer more than your standard 'knee warmer' style protection but don't offer as much as the Ion K-Pact.
Removable protective inserts for washing: Nope, but the SAS-TEC protection is attached directly to the fabric so they will withstand washing.
Pros: Lightweight, comfortable, close fitting and pedal friendly.
Cons: Although the Super_Perforate_Neoprene is the most breathable fabric Ion has used it is still warmer than a mesh fabric.
Note: Please take care as to not pull the knee pads up your leg from the top of the pads as you would a pair of socks. The material is not designed for this and may cause tears. Damage to the knee pads of this nature may not be covered by the manufacturer warranty. We recommend pulling up knee pads from the top and bottom of the pad with care, in a way that avoids stretching the mesh or damaging the stitching.

Coming from some IXS Flow EVO+ in XL, got these in L as indicated by the size chart and they fit my fat thighs well.
I had them a bit low, the bottom of the cutout needs to sit above the calf and theyre way more comfortable. Theyre not very long so that also removed the gap between the pad and shorts.
Have taken a couple of unplanned dismounts in them, all in the name of science, and theyve performed well. One was a wash out and they were perfect. The other landed on a log. They stayed in place and looked after my knee although it left me wishing they extended a little further down the shin.
Ive done shuttle days and 2-3 hr pedals and found them very comfortable. They are warmer than the IXS Flows, not terrible but noticeable.

Ive had these knee pads for nearly a year now and I cant rate them highly enough. I ride a lot around four 2 hour rides a. week sometimes more & with plenty of climbing and I hardly notice them on; set and forget.
