Gatekeeper Tailgate Pad

I've been using the Gatekeeper for a solid 18 months.

It sits on the UTE nearly continuously, rain, hail or shine.

The underside of the pad is plush. I have zero marks or scratches on the tailgate so it's 5 stars in that department.

The neoprene cradles for the down tubes are supportive, soft and easy to wipe clean before you mount the bike up there.

There's lots of "pad" under the neoprene so again, 5 stars.

What doesn't get 5 stars is both the Velcro straps for the mounting pads, and the Velcro on the tailgate flap.

The straps have lost the ability to secure themselves, so a couple of the mounting points are now useless.

The pad material on the tail gate flat seems to have shrunk a little, so the Velcro strips no longer line up. You can get them to attach, but it's with excessive force that shouldn't be needed.

Overall, a good supportive and secure tailgate pad, but 18 months of hard work are showing signs of lack of longevity.

Previously used an Evoc tailgate pad , stupid design with 6 bike capacity for an Australian ute, for me the bikes are too close. In saying that the evoc pad held them very well, so anyway bought the Yakima gatekeeper as it's a five bike capacity. The pad itself is of good quality as far as padding goes but doesn't hold bikes as securely as the evoc pad, the retaining strap allows the bike to spin in the strap resulting in the bikes falling into each other, fixed it by holding the front brake on with a rubber band. If evoc made a 5 bike pad I'd buy one of those instead
