What technologies has SRAM pioneered?
SRAM has led the pack and pioneered the following:
- 1x (single chainring) drivetrains
- Wireless electronic shifting (AXS)
- 12-speed Eagle drivetrains
- Direct mount derailleurs
- The DUB bottom bracket standard
What's the difference between SRAM's product tiers (Red, Force, Rival, GX, NX, etc.)?
SRAM groupsets and components are categorised by riding experience and performance tiers. Road: Red (premium) > Force (performance) > Rival (value) > Apex (entry). Mountain: XX1/X01 (premium) > GX (performance) > NX (value) > SX (entry). Each tier offers the same core technology with variations in materials and weight.
How do I know which SRAM groupset is right for my bike and riding style?
Use our interactive Groupset Selector tool to match your discipline (mountain, gravel), budget, and performance needs. Key factors include electronic vs. mechanical preference, gear range requirements, and desired features like power meters or wireless shifting.
Are SRAM components compatible with other brands?
Many SRAM Australia components are cross-compatible, but electronic systems (AXS) work best within SRAM's ecosystem. Chains, cassettes, and some derailleurs can often mix between brands, but we recommend checking our compatibility charts for optimal performance. When in doubt, one of our MTB Direct Customer Service legends would be happy to assist.
How often should I service my SRAM components?
Service intervals depend on riding conditions and component type. Generally: chains every 2000-3000km, brake pads every 6 months, full drivetrain annually. AXS components need minimal maintenance beyond battery management.
