I wish this stem lived up to the hype, I’ve owned one on three different occasions, and 2/3 times it has failed to grip my steerer tube properly even when installed and torqued correctly (I do this for a living).

I’m 90kg and This seems to occur when riding aggressively on rougher faster tracks, the resulting misalignment would sometimes require fixing multiple times per run.

I’d put this down to poor luck, or incorrect installation; if not for the fact that I also know two other guys I ride with that have had the exact same issue, and I have never ever had any issues with any other top end stems.
I have gone to using burgtec as my go to product (issue free)

I bought the 50 mm version of this stem, and in my opinion its the best looking stem that's ever graced my bike. The machining looks first class and there is something about a 2 piece clamp design which makes other 1 piece face plates look cheap and over designed. Essentially the stem oozes quality. The idea of being able to flip the stem and change the bar height is a novel idea, but for me personally, a stem is a set and forget component, so I don't imagine this feature is something i'll use in the future. However, the slight rise opens up another way of increasing your bar height beyond changing your handlebar or playing with steerer tube spacers. Regarding the stiffness/strength of the stem, I've found it adequately stiff/strong. Under aggressive trail riding and enduro racing conditions the stem has never slipped in clamping, and I torqued it to Renthal's specifications. Unfortunately there is a negative to this stem. Relative to other conventional single face plate stems, the Apex is difficult to install. Especially with carbon bars, you need to be careful sliding each of the face clamps along the bar to the clamping area and avoid cutting into the fibers. Care is also needed if you're worried about the paint/clear coat of your bars. All in all though, if you're into beautifully machined, shiny components that also work as intended, this stem is for you. Considering the pricing of other high end stems, this stem is a little more expensive, but still reasonably priced considering the unique design and quality. This stem is not for you if you believe a stem is a 'means to an end' to connect the bars to the steerer tube. There are heavier, less aesthetically pleasing, but cheaper options available.

I bought this stem as part of the front end upgrade on my 2014 Giant Trance Adv1. I also added a 160mm Pike solo air and an 800mm enve DH bar (that is now cut to 780mm). This stem looks great on my bike. Being 50mm long it has improved my handling and steering performance hugely. It's quite light, and user and online reviews made it a stand out that I couldn't go past. It is performing as expected with a few hundred km's on it already. Great price from mountain bikes direct as always.

5 stars. This stem replaced the longer stock stem. Easy to install and super tough. It's much lighter than I thought it would be. Looks great and matches my Renthal carbon fatbar perfectly. As far as performance goes, it works like any other stem, except that it matches the bars. Grips really tight. The shorter length has made the steering more direct and matched with the wider bars (from stock) I believe has increased my confidence on the trails. Would recommend

Received the steam is very short amount of time no complaints there as always from MTBD.
The stem was fitted just before a trip the Mystic Mtb Park and was it worth the $$$?
YES this stem coupled with my Renthal Carbon Fatbars make an awesome combination.
I love how close they are it's amazing the difference from 50mm to the new 31.5mm the cockpit feels closer and more responsive. Let's not forget it looks great!
