Description

An old favourite in the Schwalbe line-up, the Racing Ralph has been freshly redeveloped as a rear specific modern XC racing tyre with wider, more closely spaced knobs, and reborn as the Racing Ralph HS490. While intended for use with the front specific Racing Ray, the Racing Ralph HS490 also works well as a fast rolling front tyre for riding & racing in dry hardpack trail conditions.

These tyres are available exclusively in the Red Addix Speed Compound to minimise rolling resistance and wear while maximising acceleration and braking performance. Consider pairing them with a beefier front tyre such as a Hans Dampf HS491 or Maxxis Minion DHF for a fast, capable combo for Trail and Enduro racing on dry trails.

  • ADDIX SPEED (Red): The compound of choice for XC race specialists. This is a harder compound that's main strengths are speed, stability, and durability.
  • SNAKESKIN: The Snakeskin fabric helps to prevent sidewall cuts and helps to provide an easy tubeless conversion

    Racing Ralph for the win!

    These Schwalbe Racing Ralph 2 HS490 Tyres are awesome, nice and grippy while still being a fast rolling tyre. Very happy with my purchase!!

    Racing Ralph 2 review

    Riding on a few muddy tracks with +5 year old tyres, knew it was time to upgrade. Having enjoyed the previous Racing Ralph rubber thought I'd give the updated versions a go.

    The new tread pattern grips well, is predictable in corners and rolls good on the trails and on the road heading back back home. However there is now a noticeable tyre noise but guess this is probably because my older tyres were well ridden to almost slick status.

    Tyres were easy to install but recommend stretching them in overnight on the rim before adding the sealant in.

    Tyres are a good weight, do the job, come it at a reasonable price and look great.

    Haven't had the chance to ride in rain yet but confident they will handle standing water well due to tyre block structure.

    Blue Speedgrip is great for me - but not the red Speed.

    I have used Ralph's as my rear XC tyre for many years now. Great tyre but historically wore out quickly. The Addix formulations seemed to improve longevity a bit. But I found the red "Speed" compound to offer a lot less grip / traction than the older Ralphs on dusty hardpack. So I swapped to the blue "Speedgrip" version and that has been much improved for traction. But I see Schwalbe have decided not to do Ralphs in Speedgrip anymore :-(. So I will need to find a different tyre for the rear of my bike as I won't use the red Speed again.
