Description

The most aggressive model in Pirelli's XC lineup, the Scorpion XC S tyre is designed for racing and training in extreme and loose conditions, from dry sand to sticky mud. The tyres tall, widely spaced knobs, give it the ability to bite deep into loose and soft terrain to provide you with maximum grip. The tread design draws on Pirelli's long history creating tyres for motocross, providing plenty of support for the knobs when cornering, and excellent mud-shedding qualities in wet, gloopy conditions.

Pirelli's unique SmartGrip single compound rubber has excellent tear resistance and chemical grip qualities, providing consistent performance in wet and dry conditions, even as the tread starts to wear.

The ProWALL casing is reinforced for extra puncture protection and improved handling at lower pressures. An additional layer of nylon fabric is applied over the casing sidewalls for extra protection and improved cornering stability.

The LITE casing is all about providing maximum rolling efficiency and suppleness and uses a lighter carcass to increase speed and riding feel.

Who's this item for: This tyre is for XC riders looking for an aggressive tyre for use in soft and loose terrain.

Suggested terrain use: This is a soft-terrain tyre so it will excel in deep loam, dust, sand, and mud.

Which wheel? This tyre would work well both front and rear.

Casing: 120 tpi

Rim width? The relatively narrow width of these tyres would pair best with rims with internal widths under 30mm.

    Great but!

So I put this Tyre on my 140/150 bike. The first 15 k were fantastic. Great rolling Tyre, felt really agile and quite a lot of grip. But the end came quick when I punctured the Tyre with a large something. So that was an expensive ride. Could have happened on any Tyre but just bad luck. Definetly a great Tyre but I had to go with something more resistant.

Not as grippy as I had expected - but have I set it up to fail?

Currently the 2.4 inch version of this tyre is sitting on a pretty narrow, older Stans rim, so the tread is quite round. I've just ordered a 35mm internal width front wheel to replace it so I expect this will improve the grip dramatically with a better profile and lower pressure.

This said, it's predictable on all sorts of surfaces. At under $80 I think it was a good investment.
