Description

The Pirelli Scorpion E-MTB R is a rear-specific tyre with a special tread pattern engineered for traction and braking grip over a variety of trail conditions. It's the perfect rear tyre when paired with the Scorpion E-MTB M up front.

The specific design of the central tread, derived from Pirelli's experience in the world of Motocross, increases grip and stability both when braking and accelerating and gives the Scorpion E-MTB R unique levels of confidence and reliability on mixed terrain.

Who's this item for: This rear-specific tyre is designed to hold up to the extra demands of a modern e-MTB but this would also make it an excellent choice for any hard-hitting gravity riders that tend to pinch flat their tyres a lot.

Suggested terrain use: This is a mixed-terrain tyre so it should be a great all-rounder.

Which wheel? The Scorpion E-MTB R is the perfect rear tyre when paired with a Scorpion E-MTB M up front.

Casing: 60 TPI Hyperwall construction provides enhanced sidewall support and pinch flat resistance, especially around the bead area. Hyperwall is an excellent choice for DH and E-MTB riders.

Compound: Smartgrip+ is a single compound rubber that Pirelli has optimised for the unique speed and torque features associated with electric motors of modern E-MTB's.

The rider benefits from enhanced tyre performance, even under the higher speed and torque of E-MTB riding.

Rim width? These tyres are pretty wide at 2.6" so they would be best paired with rims with an internal width of 30mm and wider, but 28mm wide rims will also be fine.

    Hard compound tires sacrifice grip.

The tread pattern is very similar to the Maxxis DHF but the compound, including the sidewalls, is much firmer.

Our local trails have a lot of sandstone, and there is definitely reduced grip in the wet.

The firmer sidewalls is nice - the tires hold their shape better with lower pressures.

I would buy tires from this range again, but will try the Soft or Medium for my rear next time.
