Description

The Bell Super DH MIPS helmet not only looks great but suits a wide variety of riding styles. More importantly, it is absolutely brimming with safety features.

Who's this item for: Riders chasing a new trail helmet but are after something they can convert into a full face. DH rated, this helmet is perfect for riders who hit up the bike park or DH races a few times a year but don't want to own more than one helmet.

Construction: The Bell Super DH features something called 'progressive layering'. Bell defines that as: "The process of engineering a helmet liner with variable EPS foam densities to better manage the transfer of energies after some impacts". The 'fusion in-mould polycarbonate shell' is a process that was pioneered by Bell. This process bonds the helmets outer shell to the EPS foam liner, the result is a sturdier helmet. The biggest feature of the Super DH is the removable chin bar. Did we mention you don't need any tools to install or remove it? How good is that!

Rotational liner: MIPS Spherical is used in the Bell Super DH. This more advanced version of MIPS enhances the helmets ability to address rotational impacts as well as high and low-speed impacts. This more comprehensive protection also allowed Bell to better design the Super DH's ventilation.

Straps: Standard webbing straps with a Fidlock buckle.

Retention System: Bell calls the retention system 'Float Fit DH'. This system allows a comfortable, secure fit that is easy to find via an easy to turn rubber over-moulded dial.

Ventilation: This convertible helmet features intake ports on the brow of the helmet to allow cool air in, through the air channel matrix and out the rear of the helmet. This equates to full-head ventilation. In total there a whopping 19 vents in the Bell Super DH. With 6 of them being featured on the front of the helmet as intake vents- 2 brow, 4 chin bar.

Padding: The Bell Super DH uses Bells own 'sweat guide pad design' which pulls moisture away from the brow pad and eyewear area. Their X-Static padding uses a quick-drying material that has been woven with real silver fibres. These silver fibres inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi which can cause odours.

Weight: At a minuscule 850-grams (SIZE M) this is a featherweight full face.

Standout features: MIPS Spherical is the lastest and most advanced rotational impact protection system out there. There is also an adjustable visor and a snap-in camera mount to capture your shred-sesh.

Pros: Rated to ASTM F1952-00 (DOWNHILL) and ASTM F2032-06 (BMX). Great ventilation, MIPS Spherical, good retention system.

Cons: Although this helmet is DH rated the MTBA guidelines state that it is not suitable for use in DH racing events in Australia. You'll need a dedicated full-face helmet for that.

    No adjustability in straps

I would have kept this helmet but having no front back adjustment in the straps means it doesn't sit well.

    Bell Super DH MIPS Helmet

Such an unreal helmet at a good price point vs competitors in the market. The magnetic buckle is a nice touch too. The convertable ability is definetly the best part and you will use it more than you think. The added protection of being made for downhill is such a premium! It has the adjustment wheel on the back which most full face helmets dont - but allows for a perfect fit.

    great helmet

The helmet in its fullface form looks and feels great. Without the face guard on, it looks a bit weird. It looks huge and you end up looking like the guy off Spaceballs. Lol

    HECTIC HELMET!!!

This helmet is sick with great support and very well made, the latch system is outstanding and very strong, It’s easy to put the chin bar onto the helmet and line it up, everything just snaps into place, the magnetic latch to hold the helmet on is very strong and is very easy to undo after a long ride, if I have any complaints it’s the rear latch can sometimes go on a little bit loose but that’s probably just user error as if you push down harder it clicks right into place. Also the included helmet bag and chin pads is awesome and keeps the helmet feeling new and protected during transport and storing. This Helmet is awesome and you won’t regret buying it.

    Excellent Helmet.

I ended up getting the Bell Super DH to replaced my Bell Super 3R.

The DH fits very comfortably, and is true to size. The chin bar is easy enough to get off, but not nearly as intuitive as the MET Parachute, which has a magnetic chin bar.

The helmet is DH certified, which I wanted as I planned on going to the bike park a few times a year.

I was able to keep the chin bar on the Super 3R on permanently as the helmet breathes well. This is my only long term concern with this particular helmet as it lacks the ventilation of the MET Parachute and the Fox Proframe.

    My head is 58.5cm.

I found the MET Parachute (L) was a tiny bit too small and hurt my ears going on.

I found the Fox Proframe (L) had a perfect fit.

I found the Fox Proframe RS (M) was a little to tight and my ears got red and swollen and the large was way to big.
