Dollars for Dirt - October 2018

Dollars For Dirt

Each month, we select three groups who are doing excellent things in MTB in Australia. We've recently DOUBLED the amount of funds we put forward - so now each month, we put $1,200 on the table, and we ask our customers to vote to decide who gets the funds.

Each group gets at least $300, but the group with the highest votes at the end of the month scores $600!

Kyogle Track and Trail MTB Club (NSW)

https://www.facebook.com/groups/861916657176069/

"We are a very small club which has been slowly building trails in Boorabee State Forest, Kyogle and now have close to 5km of singletrack built. We have plans to build over 20km of gravity focused trails but have a long way to go. We will be applying for grants in the future but until then we could use help with purchasing tools etc as we have recently used up all our funds paying our permit to use the forest. Our goal is to build a recreational area for the local community, get more people riding mountain bikes and create some of the best gravity focused trails in the SE Qld/Northern NSW region"

Break the Boundary Inc. (WA)

https://breaktheboundary.com

"Break the Boundary Inc. is an Australian charity which helps people with physical and neurological disabilities to lead healthier and happier lives by using adaptive mountain biking as a way to break the physical, mental and social boundaries to the great outdoors. The small and passionate team at Break the Boundary boasts a profile of several 3-day camps for beginners and intermediate adaptive riders, social rides, community workshops, demo-days, inclusion of adaptive categories in state and national rounds, and the publishing of internationally recognised Australian Adaptive MTB Guidelines. The first MTB Community Hub will enable the WA community to access very specialised adaptive cycles and wheelchairs for use at Kalamunda's extensive off-road trail network while integrating and enriching the lives of people who would otherwise not get the opportunity to go beyond flat surfaces."

Southside Mountain Bike Club (QLD)

https://www.facebook.com/CairnsSouthsidemtb/

"Southside MTB Club is a brand new club, incorporated 8/9/18. The reason that we formed the club was to try to preserve the few remaining trails that are located on the south side of Cairns. Presently there are a few pockets of trail scattered around the suburban areas on the south side of Cairns but these are rapidly becoming taken over by urban development. As a club we intend to work with council and state government to preserve these trails and link them together to form a recognised trail network. The few founding members of the club have worked tirelessly behind the scenes organising the countless documents that it takes to get a club up and running, often reaching into their own pockets in the process. Thanks MTB direct for allowing us the opportunity to win these much needed funds."
