Dollars for Dirt - February 2019

Dollars For Dirt

Each month, we select three groups who are doing excellent things in MTB in Australia. We've recently DOUBLED the amount of funds we put forward - so now each month, we put $1,200 on the table, and we ask our customers to vote to decide who gets the funds.

Each group gets at least $300, but the group with the highest votes at the end of the month scores $600!

Hunter Mountain Bike Association (NSW)

https://hmba.asn.au/

The Hunter Mountain Bike Association is the oldest MTB club in NSW. Formed in 1985, HMBA have grown to become the driving force behind Cross-country (XC) and Downhill (DH) racing and riding in the Greater Hunter, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie regions. HMBA was nominated by Hank Duchateau, as they have helped him become the National Off-Road Handcycle Champion for 2018, Series winner for DH at Awaba Newcastle NSW 2018 and NSW State Champion 2017.

The Dollars For Dirt donation would help with the track building program which HMBA are undertaking to make more trails inclusive for off-road handcycles.

Team Mount Beauty (VIC)

http://www.tmb.org.au

Team Mt Beauty is one of the oldest MTB clubs in Australia. Since 1990, we have run top-level events, nurtured elite riders, and built and maintained iconic trails. We are passionate about increasing accessibility to mountain biking and strive to promote diversity and inclusiveness. Recent club activities include:

  • Construction of an easier climbing trail.
  • State-level CX, XC, GE and DH races.
  • TMB Club Ride Days: free shuttles, lunch, skills sessions and kids activities.
  • TMB Spoke Sisters Networking Tour: funded by the Victoria Government’s Change Our Game initiative, it begins in Nov 2018 and aims to connect female MTB leaders.

Team Mount Beauty has been building and maintaining a network of awesome hand cut trails in the Big Hill mountain bike park for over thirty years. There are so many hidden gems in this labyrinth but they can be hard to find as a visitor. Because of this we want to use some Dollars For Dirt funding to create clearer signage and expand our suggested loops so that visitors can make the most of our awesome trails! This signage would build on the work we have recently completed including an easier climbing trail to improve access and help you explore the training ground of some our local legends and world-class athletes like the Van de Ploegs, Panozzos and many more.

Townsville Rockwheelers (QLD)

https://www.facebook.com/rockwheelers/

Townsville Rockwheelers is the second largest mountain biking club in Australia, with over 500 members and growing! We are a mixed bunch spanning all ages and are always interested to meet new riders on our social rides and compete against you in our club events. We are all keen to support new and intermediate riders so do not feel uncomfortable joining if you do not know anyone in the club. It won’t take you long to meet new riding buddies.

Our Goals:

  • undertake trail design, construction and advocacy
  • promote mountain biking in the Townsville region
  • organise social rides, events and skills clinics

The money would go to the continual maintenance of our trails to provide an awesome riding experience to our members, community users and visitors to our beautiful region.
