Description

Imagine you are going on a 'choose your own MTB adventure' and you can only take one jacket. You'd obviously want something that is warm, but not too warm, water resistant, pockets would be good, and if it could convert into a vest for those big temperature changes- that would be ace. Enter the Pearl Izumi Elite Escape Barrier Convertible Jacket. All those boxes above- tick, tick and TICK. This is the one jacket for the four Australian seasons of riding.

Who's this item for: Riders who would like a single jacket that can be used in all kinds of weather in all kinds formations.

Element Resistance: Wind and water.

Fit Type: Pearl Izumi calls the fit 'semi-form fit' which is close fitting but not overly tight.

Materials: The Elite Escape Barrier Convertible Jacket features Pearl Izumi's ELITE Barrier fabric which provides superior wind protection and water resistance. You'll find elastic hem and cuffs to help seal in the warmth and protect from drafts while silicone grippers at the waist holds the jacket in position. A Direct-Vent mesh panel located on the back of the jacket (or vest) helps with ventilation when things heat up. A full length 2-way Vislon zipper with an easy-to-grab pull tab allows front access and ventilation. An integrated storm flap that covers that zip helps keep mother nature out of your jacket. If you find you need a bit more ventilation during those long climbs or efforts you can partially unzip the sleeves for additional venting. Too hot for sleeves? No worries! Simply zip them off and the shoulder yoke and the jacket easily converts into a vest.

Pockets Position and Quantity: There are two zippered front hand pockets and a rear zippered storage pocket which can be used to store the sleeves, or the entire jacket. If you you're too warm on the ride and no longer need the jacket you can stuff it into the rear storage pocket and using an integrated strap, store it on your bike.

Hood: No hoods here.

Pros: Convertible jackets don't get as much praise as they should. The ability to regulate temperature by adding or removing sleeves is terrific. The 'on bike storage' function is very smart.

Cons: Only available in black.
