Dollars for Dirt - September 2019

Dollars For Dirt

Each month, we select three groups who are doing excellent things in MTB in Australia. We've recently DOUBLED the amount of funds we put forward - so now each month, we put $1,200 on the table, and we ask our customers to vote to decide who gets the funds.

Each group gets at least $300, but the group with the highest votes at the end of the month scores $600!

Gippsland MTB (VIC)

http://www.gippslandmtb.com.au

Gippsland MTB Inc actively engages with landholders in the Gippsland region to formalise MTB trails in this area of Victoria. When we formed in 2008 there were no formal MTB trails in the region, while in 2016 we were up to 7 designated MTB parks and currently have a number of others that are getting close. The club funds most of its activities through running events on our trails and prides itself in putting this back into the trails or purchasing equipment to make the events bigger and better.

The goal is to make Gippsland a mecca for MTB riding, and we have some grand plans in the works that will help us to achieve this. If you have not ridden any Gippsland trails, then plan a road trip and come see what you are missing!

Peel District Mountain Bike Club (WA)

https://pdmbc.com.au

We have run the WA State Downhill Series for over 10 years including State Champs & 2019 saw us introduce a Slalom Summer Series to help intro people to our sport & club. In the past we have also run charity events, in 2018 we hosted the Walshy Cup which raised funds for local injured rider Adrian Walsh.

PDMBC are also caretakers for the Wellington Mills DH Tracks, Nannup DH Tracks & Dwellingup DH Tracks. Currently the club is working on getting more desperately needed tracks approved by working with local Government & also assisting other WA clubs by passing on our expertise and experience.

Being a not for profit we also focus on rider development, we have our own club coach & are currently working on a Junior DH Development program. In the past we have helped send local WA rider Jordan Prochyra to the DH World Cup/Champs and we are proud to say we are about to help send our top junior rider Jaxon Sawyer to the 2019 World Champs as he has just been selected for the Aus Junior Team.

All of these initiatives are run and funded by completely by volunteers as we are a proud community not-for-profit club. Being a not-for-profit community club we have learnt to run our club on the smell of an oily rag so any $$$ for dirt would be well spent on trail maintenance. Being responsible for 3 DH areas takes a lot of time effort & $$$ so any help would go a long way.

We currently need some more trail tools so I think $300 would get us another rake n bake & half bake!

Gladstone MTB Inc (QLD)

https://www.facebook.com/GladstoneMTB/

Our club started two years ago with a five hundred acre plot of land that we've leased in the local state forest. We started with a couple of tracks scratched through the bush, and slowly but surely we are building an extensive trail network. We have had a couple of runs professionally built, but the majority come through the hard graft of club members passionate about the sport and keen on trails they like to ride.

The club is constantly growing as members of the public discover what we have to offer. We had our first cross country in March 2016, and this year we are holding six events in both gravity and XC disciplines as part of an interclub championship with Rockhampton. Our main event this year was the day/night 6-hour XC which was held on July 29th with nearly 60 entries. Any help we can get to continue to grow are fledgling club would be greatly appreciated and put to good use.
