Dollars for Dirt - July 2019

Dollars For Dirt

Each month, we select three groups who are doing excellent things in MTB in Australia. We've recently DOUBLED the amount of funds we put forward - so now each month, we put $1,200 on the table, and we ask our customers to vote to decide who gets the funds.

Each group gets at least $300, but the group with the highest votes at the end of the month scores $600!

Beechworth Chain Gang (VIC)

https://beechworthchaingang.com.au/

The Beechworth Chain Gang MTB Club is based in Beechworth, North East Victoria, Australia. We are a small club that enjoys riding our bikes, maintaining our MTB park and dodging rocks.

We recently started a junior ride program to get more kids interested in riding and improve their skills. The attendance of the program has doubled in the first year with some really good feedback from parents and the kids. We have a number of parents that help out but need to increase the number of MTBA accreditations (MTBA Level 0 MTB Skills Coach) amongst our helpers. The money would be used to increase our ratios of MTBA coaching accredited helpers to ensure safety and better learning outcomes for the kids.

Darwin Off Road Cyclists (NT)

https://www.dorc.com.au/

DORC are a growing social mountain bike club based in Darwin in the Northern Territory. We hold on average a race a month during our wonderful dry season and plenty of social rides in between, catering for all skill levels and woman-only rides. Recently one of our members achieved both his MTBA level 2 coaching and Pimba coaching accreditation and we are currently offering 6-week MTB training courses which are being well received. As Darwin and it's immediate surrounds are somewhat vertically challenged we make do with some technical trails and what elevation we have, but we are always having fun.

Toowoomba MTB Club (QLD)

http://tmbc.org.au/

TMBC is a group of over 200 passionate mountain bikers consisting of men, women and children of all ages and abilities who are responsible for building and maintaining the 25km and growing trail network in Jubilee Park in Toowoomba. Our trail network offers a little bit of everything for everyone.

This diversity is what sets us apart and is our motivation to continually improve our trail network to meet the needs and expectations of the entire mountain biking community. We want to ensure that Jubilee Park continues to be an enjoyable, safe and user-friendly mountain biking destination.

Whatever we can do in order to encourage increased participation in mountain biking within our community is something we are extremely passionate about.

Our club has a core of wonderful and dedicated volunteers who donate their time regularly to attend maintenance and build days as well as assisting with running numerous events throughout the year. As a thank you for all their hard work, our club hosts shuttle days in which we organise an afternoon shuttle service along with a catered BBQ for our volunteers to enjoy and socialise with other club volunteers.

Any donation would be put towards improving on these volunteer appreciation days or even look to run them more regularly. A club is only as good as its volunteers, so we know our club it pretty darn good thanks to these legendary volunteers.
