Description

Securely load up to 7 bikes (L model) without scratching vehicles or bikes in under a minute. The Dakine Tailgate pad not only protects the tailgate of your ute, but it allows you to easily secure and transport a bunch of bikes using the individual frame anchor straps. The padding protects the panels of your car, and it fits easily in place using three webbing cinch straps. There's an access flap for the handle of the tailgate (which can still be operated with the pad in place).

Who's this item for: Owners of a ute that want a convenient way to carry bikes on the rear of the vehicle.

How many bikes does it carry: The large pad can take up to 7 bikes while the small pad can carry up to 5.

Tailgate handle cutout: Yes, the tailgate handle flap allows for full tailgate functionality when the pad is attached.

How much does it weigh / dimensions

  • Large: 62" (158cm) width for full-size trucks (big bertha US-style pickups only)
  • Small: 54" (137cm) width for mid-size trucks (typical Aussie style utes: Hilux, Triton, Rodeo, Courier etc)

Materials:

  • 1000D Polyester with UV/weather-resistant coating (black)
  • 600D Polyester (prints)

Any Special Features: Fleece-lined, 20mm thick dual-density foam protects your vehicle, tailgate handle flap protects your sanity.

Pros: Turns your unassuming ute into a shuttle machine.

Cons: Does not include a feature to lock the pad or bikes onto the vehicle. Arm yourself with a large cable lock if you're planning to stop in for post-ride refreshments.

Recommended, excellent quality

Have used this now for over a month on a Ford Ranger Wildtrak. It is perfect for what I needed it for, I carry up to 4 bikes all different sizes, with room for a fifth. One thing I have noticed as the tie down straps are either too long or too short. Ebike frame is big, so needed it longer, but the GT, Kona or Gaint bikes, you quickly run out of hook and loop area. Not a big problem to fix. It is great quality, protects the tailgate and bikes well. Quick to install and remove. Note on Ranger wildtrak, due to the roller shutter, XL bikes may not sit in all the way as rear wheel hits where the roller shutter housing. This has nothing to do with the Dakine pad, just something you'll notice.

Great product and great service. More than you can ask for!

I have only had this

I have only had this product for a fortnight or so but i'm going to give it 5 stars as it has worked flawlessly, very easy to install and uninstall, I usually take it off while we're riding for peace of mind. The tailgate on my amarok has no visible damage so far and i have used it pretty much every day. It is early days I know so only time will tell but the materials seem well stitched and the soft lining hasn't made any rub marks. I just love how quickly you are able to get the bikes on and off, i looked into getting one of these made out of canvas and it was nearly three times the price, absolute bargain!!

I have had the Dakine

I have had the Dakine pad for a couple of months now, and have used it for long and short trips, the straps are easy enough to use also the bike frame straps make things so easy to throw the bikes on, strap in and go, theres nothing else to do great, now for a but on long trips on bumpy dirt road I have found that the pad wears the paint off the forks, not a big deal for me but for someone anal about having a perfect looking bike not so good, I love it and would recommend it

This mat works great! I

This mat works great! I was a little worried that the bikes might move around still while attached but they're solid while driving around. It's so much easier finishing a ride and throwing the bike over the tailgate attaching the strap and your right to go. I was a tad worried about the size options as it was mentioned that it was only a small mat. I've got a holden Colorado and it fit over the tailgate perfectly. I would absolutely recommend this to other people

Excellent quality, works a treat

Excellent quality, works a treat and looks pretty cool. Only downside is that it could have better strap attachments such as Plastic Side Release Luggage Strap Belt Clip Buckle for ease of assembly and removal of the three straps instead of threading them all the way through each and every time. Doing this everytime is a bit painful, time consuming which could have been easily prevented, sorry.
