Dollars for Dirt - May 2017

Dollars For Dirt

Each month, we select three groups who are doing excellent things in MTB in Australia. We put $600 on the table, and we ask our customers to vote to decide who gets the funds. Each group gets at least $150, but the group with the highest votes at the end of the month scores $300!

SCUM MTB Club

"We are SCUM, proud members of the South Coast United Mountainbikers Club. As the name suggests, we are a group of riders who like nothing better than to get down and dirty, riding trails we lovingly maintain in the forests around Nowra NSW. We welcome male and female riders of all ages and abilities. We regularly host mountain bike events in a range of formats which attract large numbers of riders from all over. SCUM is a proud club with a long history, and a great bunch of people who love to compete, or just get together and ride in a social atmosphere. Our network of trails is extensive and we can cater for any standard of rider, from the B-line noob to the A-line expert, and all points in-between. We are the first point of contact for any visitor to the south coast of NSW wanting to explore some really great rides. Our main needs at the moment are for more tools to help us maintain our trails. We have plenty of volunteer labour, but the club would like to have the right hardware for them to use. We enjoy a good relationship with the Forestry people, who trust us to look after their assets, and we'd like to make sure that continues by using the right tools for the job."

Ararat Dirtriders Mountain Bike Club (VIC)

Ararat Dirtriders

"We are a small group in Ararat Victoria who are in the process of working with Parks Victoria in the development of a MTB park in Ararat. We have currently built over 20kn of single trail and are in the process of developing more. Park Victoria as looking to get World Trails on board to build an iconic trail but it still in development stage. We recently toured to Derby, Tasmania to get an idea of what we could do to develop our trails and make them more awesome. We run social days throughout the year and invite groups from regional areas to join us. We have catered for groups in Ballarat, Warrnambool. Maryborough and Bendigo. We have had the joy of taking primary school groups out to show them the trails and teach them the correct techniques and the importance of sustainable trails. We are in the process of developing a maintenance trailer that will help us maintain the existing trail network. We are also looking at building structures to improve the trails and would use the money to purchase equipment to help us to do this."

RATS Cycling Club (QLD) https://www.facebook.com/RATSCyclingClub

RATS Cycling Club

"RATS Cycling Club has a proud history of trail care and has played a key role in the establishment of legal mountain bike trails throughout Brisbane Southside bushland areas. We have funded and built iconic trails in SEQ including Jumping Ant, Possum Box, Spangled Drongo, Ginger Gully and Wallum Froglet. We would buy more trail care tools and put on an even better BBQ after our regular trail care days."
