Crank Brothers Stamp Speedlace Flat Shoes

After realising the old Van's didn't cut it for both BMX and MTB, I spent a long time researching a suitable new pair of shoes. Van's are extremely comfortable and great for casual skate park use, but they lack any serious grip for proper pedal control in BMX racing and downhill MTB.

Bought the Crank Stamp Flats for the kid, paired with a set of Crank Stamp 7 pedals, both on his BMX and MTB, and he is much more confident on his bike now, although he needed a few rides to adjust to lifting his foot off the pedal rather than sliding it off. You want to make sure your foot placement is perfect the first time, because it's not easy to reposition your foot mid-race while you're pedalling your heart out.

I recently bought the same shoes in the BOA version, and also Stamp pedals to upgrade my own bikes. I feel the shoes are 'too' grippy for Freestyle BMX, a few times I couldn't slide my foot off the pedal fast enough for what I was doing and almost stacked it. If you want maximum pedal grip without wearing clip-ins, these are definitely the shoe you want. Bonus that the entire shoe is top quality, not just the sole. The upper is practically waterproof as is, and so easy to hose the mud off them. Spray them with some Scotchguard or Kiwi spray and I feel they'll last forever.

These shoes are also true to size and equally as comfortable to walk in as the Vans. I wear a Men's US 6 (Women's US 7.5) in Van's (and every other shoe brand) and these fit exactly the same. Love the bit of…

These came up on special so I took a punt as I needed some new trail shoes. Last pair were Specialized Roost and these are great. I’d say the CB shoes compare well to the Roost and have very similar grip levels on Sam Hill pedals. The shoe bed might be slightly stiffer in the CB shoe too but still flexible enough for trail hike a bike.

Speed lace and Velcro is tidy and functional.

If I was picky I’d like the back of the shoe to come up a little higher but overall they’re good!

The Crank Brothers Stamp Speed Lace Shoe are a well thought out flat pedal shoe. I was impressed by the quality material used throughout the construction of the shoe which has stood up well to the rigours of multiple day long bike rides. I have found the sole of the shoe to interface solidly with the pedal - providing an effective medium through which power is transferred from foot to pedal whilst maintaining an effective grip. The speed lace option is provided a close fitting, tailored fit that which negates the risk of traditional laces becoming entangled in pedal or cranks. As an additional bonus, the shoes are quite aesthetically pleasing, with the subtle red hues contrasting nicely with the overall black and grey colour employed throughout the shoe.
