Description

The Prime 9 range of components from Box has made many people rethink what a 9-speed drivetrain is capable of. Providing riders with all the range of a 12-speed setup but without the complexity, weight, and excessive shifting, Prime 9 drivetrains are also far more affordable. You can ride them hard and not shed so many tears when something inevitably wears out or breaks.

Box Three is their best all-rounder drivetrain that offers excellent performance and durability at a wallet-friendly price point.

Single-shift groupsets have been designed with e-bikes in mind and feature a 12T smallest cog rather than the 11T found on the multi-shift options.

Who's this item for: This is for riders looking for all the same range as a 12-speed setup with the simplicity and weight savings of a 9-speed setup. It's a great choice for those wanting to bring an older 2x/3x drivetrain bike into the 12 century without needing to re-mortgage the house.

Compatibility: Single-shift groupsets have been designed with e-bikes in mind and feature a 12T smallest cog rather than the 11T found on the multi-shift options.

All Prime 9 components are cross-compatible with other levels across the range. All of these components can be purchased separately if you want to mix and match with other Box Prime 9 parts. A Prime 9 chain must be used.

  • Box Three Prime 9 Speed Twin Lever Shifter

Poor selector spacing

by

Everything fitted on very nicely, but after many hours of attempting to get the derailleur adjustment right I came to the conclusion that the derailleur spacing between gears (an inherent fixed design feature of derailleur & selector combination and thus not adjustable) was too big. This means that at lower gears the chain wanted to jump into the next a lower gear, while at higher gears it wanted to engage the next highest gear. Clearly adjusting it higher or lower would just make one of the ends even worse. Given that my teenage son had saved for a long time to turn his bike into a 1x , I felt compelled to make it work instead of simply returning the kit. So I created a.spacer in the cable guideway of the derailleur to reduce the jump-size between gears which solved the problem. It works beautifully now - but it leaves a very poor impression when you have to make such "backyard" solutions to get a brand new kit to work properly.

Great value + functional

I put one of these sets on my son's downhill bike. He's 12 and he rides a medium sized full downhill bike. This groupset has been great (6 months + of wear so far). Had an issue with a metal strut on the first one cracking - but the guys at MTB Direct got a full replacement for us. Great service and the crack was in an odd place and was pretty certainly a manufacturing issue that I would not expect to be common. The replacement has been great and never missed a beat. My son has ridden it at Thredbo and parks around Sydney plus is on his bike every day jumping gutters and fences. It's been a great investment for him. I'm going to get another for my younger boy's bike.

Box Three prime 9

The box Three Prime 9 group set is an awesome product for riders that want a high and low gear but are on a small budget and I would recommend this product for new riders or anyone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money.

Great product

by

This product is simple to install restoring life on my hardtail, shifting is way smoother than my old Shimano gears.

Awesome groupset upgrade

by

This groupset is perfect for my Mongoose dual suspension mtb, I installed a shimano deore crankset and it works great, smooth changing of gears.
